Managing Your Stay in Oman: A Practical Guide

The “Visa Run” Misconception

A “visa run” is the practice of briefly exiting a country and re-entering to reset a visa’s duration. While common in some regions, this can be risky in Oman. Immigration authorities may question frequent re-entries on tourist visas, and some visas are single-entry only. Always assume your visa is for one continuous stay unless it is explicitly a “multiple-entry” visa.

How Immigration Counts a “Day”

It’s a critical detail that is often overlooked: immigration authorities typically count your day of arrival as “Day 1” of your stay, regardless of what time you land. This calculator uses the same principle. For example, if you have a 10-day visa and arrive on January 1st, your last full day to legally stay is January 10th, and you must exit by that date.

Are There Grace Periods?

While some countries offer an official grace period after a visa expires, this is generally not the case in Oman. The overstay fine of 10 OMR per day typically begins the day after your visa’s official expiry date. Do not rely on unofficial advice about grace periods; the “Must Exit By” date is your most important deadline.
